[Pictured: Flynn's Woodstock - Black Junior Buck - Best in Show @ Stonebelt RBA]
On Sunday I judged my first show of the fall season in Franklin, Indiana. I had intended originally to leave everyone at home. In the end I left most of the Tans home that had been shown the prior weekend and opted to allow a (mostly) new group to gain some table experience. A big thanks to Chance and Treasa for showing my rabbits for me while I judged!
Best in Show and Best of Breed was Flynn's Woodstock - Black Junior Buck. This was this buck's first show. Best Opposite of Breed was Flynn's Ophelia - Black Junior Doe. I showed one chocolate and had BOV with Flynn's Cleopatra.
Next show: ARBA Convention in San Diego (...but I've said that once before!).

The Indiana State Convention show last weekend was my first show since Ohio Mini Convention. I had BOB in all four shows. On Saturday I won with Flynn's Cleopatra (chocolate junior doe) under Brad Boyce and Flynn's Ophelia (black junior doe) under Josh Humphries. On Sunday I won both shows with Flynn's Supersonic (black junior buck) under Tex Thomas and Phil Woolet. While the BOB winners flip flopped a bit from show to show, the class placings were consistent across the board with these four great judges.
Next show: ARBA National Convention in San Diego, CA in October...
Congratulations to Morgan Barba for winning the youth giveaway contest this year. Morgan will pick up a breeding pair of Tans from me at the ARBA National Convention in San Diego, CA in about a month. Morgan's winning essay is available here.
This year I am continuing the tradition of giving away a pair of Tans to a youth breeder at the ARBA National Convention. You do not need to be in attendance at Convention, but you must have transportation for the animals from the show. More information is located here.
I would appreciate it if you can share this post so that it reaches more youth. Thank you!
[Flynn's Shameless being judged at OSRBA Mini Convention]
The last two shows I have attended were two of the biggest of the entire year: The National Tan Show (April 17th) and the Ohio Mini Convention (April 30th and May 1st). At the Ohio Mini Convention I retired several of my favorite animals. In particular it was nice that Shameless ended his show career on such a high note, with double BOB wins.
Shameless is a very special buck to me. He was the 2nd Place Black Junior Buck at the 2015 ARBA National Convention in Portland (1st place was Flynn's Budapest) and 1st Place Black Senior Buck at the 2016 National Tan Show. He has had numerous BOB/BOS wins. Each time he was BOS it was to Flynn's Nightingale, one of the best black does I've ever raised. Nightingale has also been retired and is (hopefully) expecting ARBA Convention juniors.
Below are the results from the last two big shows:
This weekend was my first show since NYE. As I was judging I only entered three rabbits. Flynn's Stardust had double Best of Breed wins and was Reserve in Show in Show A. I also had BOB and BOS wins in Tans with Flynn's Hilary (Black Senior Doe) and Flynn's Firewater (Black Junior Buck).
In posting this I realize this is the first time I have mentioned Florida Whites on my website. I have had a small herd of Florida Whites since the 2014 ARBA Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. This show was maybe the third time I've shown them. I mostly appreciate just working with these great animals. It's honestly more satisfactory than any show win. I owe a lot of thanks to Donald Sheets for my first animals, as well as Ashley Garza and Amanda/Rob Wampner for the other animals that helped me get started.
As much as I love judging, I'm glad that I was able to spend my time at the Lafayette, Indiana NYE show hanging out with wonderful friends. We had solid numbers for Tans and I closed out the year with a BOB win with Flynn's Shameless (black junior buck) and BOS with Flynn's Nightingale (black junior doe). I also showed a blue for the furst time in a few years and had BOV.
Yes, I am posting this update about a month late. :) January has been a month of hiberating from rabbit shows and spending time in the barn instead. I have a few shows tenatively planned for February and March that I will play by ear. For the most part things should be pretty quiet here until the National Tan Show in April.
Have a safe and pleasant winter and I hope to see everyone this spring!
A few weeks ago I judged the MSU Fall Show in Lansing, Michigan. It is one of my absolute favorite shows of the year both as an exhibitor and a judge. I was able to catch Tan judging for Show A. Corey Hayes did an amazing job sorting through decent sized classes of nationally competative quality rabbits. It is always wonderful to have good numbers and nice quality animals to compete against at shows.
I had Best of Breed in both shows with two different black does -- Flynn's Nightingale and Flynn's Iconic. Above you will find a short video of BOB judging in Show A. The first rabbit featured is Flynn's Nightingale and the second rabbit is Flynn's Shameless, a black junior buck who was BOS. Nightingale was 4th at Convention and Shameless was 2nd, so these are two of my better animals from my national show string. I was absolutely thrilled that they were so appreciated by the judge.
A big thank you to Katie Peltier and others for being so kind as to show my animals for me in Sh...
[Flynn's Style - Black Senior Doe. She was tired post-show, so this is as good as it gets for now!]
Apparently a lot of people were itching for a show after Convention because the showroom was PACKED. I was thrilled that we had seven exhibitors in Tans and excellent numbers in the chocolates and blacks. It was a long day and I was drop dead tired by the end, but sticking around was well worth it! Style, a pretty black doe won Best of Breed under Bruce Ormsby. This was her first show as a senior. She went on to win Reserve Best in Show under Josh Humphries, Sandy Doyle and Dave Hauser.
Below are the full show results for every Tan I showed:

All of the rabbits received amazing comments. Many were unfinished thanks to fluctuating Indiana weather and received comments that they would have placed higher or won their class if finished.
If you are friends on my personal page, you probably already know that 2015 was the roughest year of my life as I dealt with the illness and death of both my parental figures. As a result I bred and showed very minimally, so I am more than thrilled that even on "auto pilot" my herd did so well at both Nationals and Convention. I placed high in the compet...
