Q: Do you offer discounts?
A: Rabbits are priced based on the quality of the animal, not the person buying the animal. I feel that young or old alike, everyone deserves the chance to own nice rabbits at a fair price.

Q: Do you sell rabbits as pets?
A: Yes, many people buy Tans with the intention of keeping them as pets. Feel free to inquire about the temperament and personality of any rabbit(s) we may have for sale.

Q: What does "registered," "grand champion" or "leg" mean?
A: This is a simplified answer, but a leg of grand championship is awarded to rabbits that win under certain criteria at ARBA sanctioned shows. Physically it is a small piece of paper that is a leg (or component) of the requirement for the rabbit to become a Grand Champion. Three legs and a handful of other requirements are then needed for a rabbit to officially become a Grand Champion with the ARBA. Please see the registration page for more information about registration.

Sales Policy

About Our Sales: We raise rabbits for the enjoyment and challenge of improving our breed and not to make money. We are very flexible and understanding and always strive to be helpful and honest. That being said, we have found that having a sales policy helps separate those that are truly committed to buying a rabbit from those interested in an impulse buy. Most buyers are wonderful and most transactions go smoothly. However, on rare occasions a "difficult buyer" emerges that also makes this policy necessary.

Our Rights: Blue Ribbon Rabbitry has the right to decline a sale to anyone we so choose or cancel any pending sale for any reason. If you have made any payments and we choose to cancel the sale any payments made will be refunded.

Holding: Rabbits are sold on a first come, first serve basis. You are more than welcome to come by our rabbitry while a rabbit is for sale and look at it and decide to buy it or place it on hold. We do contact those on the waiting list before placing the rabbits for sale on the website. We strongly encourage those interested in stock to bookmark our sales page and return to it from time to time to check up on new additions.

Placing a rabbit on hold: If you are not able to pick up a rabbit within a few days of the inquiry, but are very sure you do want to buy it, we can hold the rabbit(s) for you for a short period of time with a deposit. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold rabbits for up to 2 weeks. This deposit is applied to the total. The 50% deposit applies to each rabbit. For example, if you put a $50 deposit on two $50 rabbits and decide to only buy one, you still owe $25 on the one and will lose the $25 deposit on the other. This policy is intended to ensure we are only holding rabbits for people who truly are interested in buying them. The date and time for pickup must be prearranged prior to paying the deposit. Unless we have agreed to meet you at a specific show we are already attending, all rabbits must be picked up at our rabbitry in Monrovia, Indiana. We are located one mile off the interstate and are very easy to find.

If the rabbit(s) being held are not picked up within two weeks (or by the agreed upon date) the deposit will be lost and the rabbits will be listed for sale again. If there is a serious emergency situation and you are not able to make it, please notify us as well in advance as possible or immediately afterwards. We still will not be able to hold the rabbit indefinitely, but we can work out something. We are very flexible and understanding.

Note: The 2 week holding period does not apply to situations such as the national convention or other shows. In such a case, rabbits can often be placed on hold a month or more before convention and we will deliver rabbits to the show. This sometimes also applies to local and state shows as well that we know we are attending without a doubt. It all depends on cage space.

Payment types: Checks, cash or money orders are fine for deposits paid in advance. If you pay by check, keep in mind that the rabbit(s) will not be considered "on hold" until the check clears the bank. We can also accept pay pal now for deposits or payments in full. We do have to charge a very small fee to cover the cost of using paypal. We do require cash for final payments made the day the rabbit is going home with you.

Health Guarantee: All rabbits are in good health at the time of the sale. If an animal becomes sick within a 2 week period we will replace or refund the animal at our discretion. We are not responsible for injuries that occur after the rabbit leaves our hands. If we feel the rabbit was in any way neglected we will not refund or replace the animal. You are responsible for paying to return the rabbit to our rabbitry and for any veterinary bills incurred. We have never had a rabbit returned yet and hope that it never happens.

Checking over rabbits:
We check every animal that we sell thoroughly for any disqualifications or other problems. We sincerely believe in being honest with this hobby. Selling a rabbit with a problem will reflect poorly upon us and of course we do not want that. However, we are human and may miss something so you are responsible to check over the rabbit as well. In addition, it is important to check the rabbit over so if something does occur later you will know it happened after the rabbit left our barn. If you need any help checking over the rabbit(s), please do not hesitate to ask. We will be more than happy to show you how to properly turn over a rabbit and check teeth, toenails, sex, etc.

Pedigrees: All show or breeding stock rabbits will come with a pedigree. Pets may or may not come with a pedigree, please ask first. If a rabbit is "breeding quality" that will be denoted on the pedigree.

Name of Rabbit: All of our rabbits are named using our last name as a prefix plus a name we have already chosen for the rabbit. For example, "Bird's Amy". Whatever name we have chosen must remain on the pedigree. It helps alleviate confusion in the event that multiple buyers were to use the same name. You may rename the rabbit whatever you would like for use as a personal name. Basically, you can call the rabbit by any name you could like, but you cannot change the formal name of the rabbit on the papers.

Ages: We do not sell rabbit less than 8-10 weeks. We give our rabbits at least a few weeks after weaning to ensure they adjust fully. Typically though, our Tans are not sold younger than 3-4 months. We like to give them time to develop and perform on the show table before being sold. For that reason we do not sell "babies," but we do have juniors (under six months) for sale often.

Senior qualities: If you are buying a junior we cannot guarantee senior weight or any other senior qualities. Proper diet, exercise and care should ensure the rabbit reaches all senior requirements. We will never sell a rabbit that we feel will not meet senior breed requirements. We will never sell you a rabbit out of parents that did not meet senior requirements. All of our breeding stock meets requirements to be registered with the ARBA.

Stud service and pre-bred does: We do not offer stud service. This prevents the spread of venereal diseases. We do not sell rabbits that are already bred.

Shipping: We can ship rabbits, but all shipping quotes and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. Preferably, I will meet you at a show if I am already planning to attend. We attend many shows in Indiana and some in Illinois and Ohio. We also attend national breed conventions and the ARBA national convention. You may also make a trip to our rabbitry in Monrovia, Indiana.

Returns: We want every buyer to be happy with their purchase. But please know that all sales are final. This just means you cannot buy a rabbit and then later change your mind and expect a us to take the rabbit back and refund your money. In the past we have had people purchase rabbits for a specific fair or show and then try to return the rabbit when they no longer needed it. This happened a lot when we used to raise New Zealands and kids would need meat pens just for their fair show. It is not fair to the rabbits or us to do that. If you change your mind and no longer want a rabbit you have purchased from any breeder, the only thing you can do is sell it. While all sales are final, if you decide that owning a rabbit is not for you we will take the rabbit back cage space pending. You will not be refunded money in such a case. I just do not want any of our rabbits to end up in a shelter or released into the wild.
